DBQ Questions?

If you all have any questions regarding DBQs, please feel free to post them here, and I'll be sure to respond. I have my summer trip meeting tonight at 7, so I may not be around from between 7 and 9. Cheers!

I know that we are supposed to group the documents so are we supposed to clearly say "these three documents go together and these five documents go together?" Also, I am still having a little trouble with what is meant by an analysis.

hey prill, are the documents used for our DBQ going to include ones that we have already read? or are they going to be completely new ones that we have to interpret?

I was just curious on how to explain the lack of a document perspective. I'm assuming there's not going to be any representation of the lower classes and women, but I don't know how to explain what the positive would be from a woman point of view for technology.

So in each paragraph we explain and analyze and analyze the point of view? I understand how to explain each document but i don't understand the difference in explaining it and analyzing it.

The trade routes would be related to technology right? because they brought ideas and new ways of doing things to the societies they connected.

sorry i'm just getting to this folks... it's been a crazy evening with the trip meeting.

ok...so... miss stucke... you don't have to overtly say the groups, just make sure that you group them on a paragraph by paragraph basis. as far as analysis is concerned, you need to go beyond simple explanations. analysis is picking the documents apart and using them to defend your thesis. remember, you want to use the documents to push tone forward. using statements like "this document proves that..." and then drawing a conclusion is analysis.

miss murphy and miss niemann... the documents you will get tomorrow will be documents you have not likely seen before. this is typically be the case. the point is that you can get fresh documents in front of you, interpret them and then build an arguement around them. they are not random, but specific to the writing task...

miss justiniano, my suggestion would be to go with something you feel comfortable explaining. if you don't know how to explain how a doc written by a woman would be a good perspective to have, may you want to try something. documents can include charts and graphs by the way...

mr. shah... point #3 asks you to go beyond simple explanation. analysis is the key here. in at least 7 out of 8 docs, you need to be able to use, or analyze the evidence provided to defend or back up your thesis statement. #4 says you need to analyze point of view of the author. you need to ask yourself, then, why is this person saying this thing in this place in this time? and explain how this affects the way you read and understand the document.

miss hammond... yes, point of view assess three times. the key difference b/t analysis and explanation is this... simply explaining the documents does not help in defending your thesis statement. with analysis you're literally picking apart the document to support your thesis and defend your thesis.

omg mr. finaly i kicked my little sister out of my room nd off of frickn youtube i never want 2 hear charlie bit me ever ever again!!!!lol but um i think i did really bad on the dbq simply because towards the end i just started rushing nd i dont know if anything from the end makes any sence lol but i hope i did ok!!!!
