Ok folks, now that season 1 is officially over, it's time for awards season. The Whapeys (World History AP Awards) are our version of the Emmys (and a Prill family tradition) that takes place at the end of every television season. This is our opportunity to award the "best" in world history at the end of a season. This is also a great opportunity to reflect critically on content learned. This year, for the first time, all voting will be done online. The categories for voting will be listed below, and all you have to do, is nominate your selection in a comment post. Voting closes at NOON ON FRIDAY. We'll tally the votes, and the winner will be announced this weekend. As for best conflict, definitely that whole thing between Persia and Greece, the Persian Wars could have been avoided so easily! If it wasn't for complete idiot rulers.
Best invention- The mandate of heaven, if that counts as an invention. It totally gave Chinese dynasties the opportunity they needed to overthrow each other.
Best Economic system- The Nomads! seriously: hunt and gather here, raid a few cities there, no class system or diseases. Those guys knew how to live!
Best leader- Probably Darius. Things went pretty smoothly during his reign. Maybe not so much expansion.

if you liked hero, (1) you've got to watch some of yimou's other gems, and (2) you've got to watch a japanese movie called rashamon.
I just loved the artistic set-up for Hero, how each different story version had a different color scheme. It also had a really great historical message, having him give up his life for the good of the country, and be able to separate what was good for the empire versus what was good for him.
I will definitely watch Rashomon, though! Thank you.
