Well folks, Slumdog Millionaire is officially that rare film that is simply too big to ignore. It is literally steamrolling and winning EVERYTHING! I'm yet to talk to someone (whether it be adults or my own students) that has not absolutely loved this film (I myself have seen in twice and consider it a rare masterpiece). The critics also have mostly overwhelmingly loved the film as well (it is currently at 94% on the "Tomatometer" on rottentomatoes.com). Slumdog Millionaire is, therefore, that rare film that the industry embraces, critics adore, and mainstream audiences warm up to as well. The last film I can remember that was able to achieve this was Lord of the Rings: Return of the King back in 2003. That film, by the way, was only the second film in history to win every award it was nominated for, including Best Picture (the first film to do that was The Last Emperor back in 1987) so get ready for a "Slumdog Night" at the Oscars later this month. At any rate, congratulations to Danny Boyle for this achievement. Mr. Boyle has been putting impressive work out there for several years now, so I'm glad he's finally being recognized as one of the great directors working currently.

I know this doesn't have anything to do with this blog post, but I went to church on Sunday and they told a story about how there are apprentely Christian concentration camps in India now. I was just wondering if you had any information on it or something. Google isn't exactly the best resource in the world.
umm... ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! let me get that out first, and then some real, reliable facts and useful information is coming below...
ok, what you're refering to is forced labor being brought upon the chin people of BURMA (NOT INDIA)! the chin are a minority ethnic group in northwestern burma, and christianity is practiced by a majority of chins in the area. as an ethnic minority (again, the focus here is not on their religion), forced labor camps have become a terrible problem, along with simply brutal treatment. where india figures in here is, not in their treatment of this minority group (that doesn't even originate in india mind you), but in the general unwillingness of the indian government to grant the chin safe asylum. there is a long story here, but let me have you do the reading by giving you a few useful weblinks...
there's actually an organization called the "Chin Human Rights Organization" that has a website with plenty of useful information on it. the website is: http://eng.chro.org/.

you may want to share all of this information with your pastor because i'd sure hate to know that a church in the community is being told that the indian government sponsors concentration camps for christians because that is JUST PLAIN WRONG! plus, that could be problematic for our wonderful indian population in the community. you may want to diffuse this quickly miss fritz...
just for the record, while the rest of the free world watches the superbowl, i sit here in an empty apartment discussing human rights violations against an ethnic group that most americans haven't heard of, in a country that most americans can't even find on a map. good times!

The directing in Slumdog millionaire was amazing. Wasn't Dark Knight another nominee for that? Well, Dark Knight had a lot more to work with I guess, whereas Danny Boyle got pretty creative.
i had to choose between this and gran torino.
