Did the industral revolution begin in Britain because of the seven year war? I can't find it anywhere in my notes.

Alina said...

no the seven year war was what caused the american war of independance. industrial revolution began in britain because of the massive population growth that needed innovation to occur.

Alina said...

why does mr. prill call italy pooky?

jessicafritz said...

Alina said...

can someone help me with the forms of imperialism

Anonymous said...

i think thats the CoPS:
Colonialism-just take over completely
Protectorate- colony has its own gov. but policies are guided by foreign power.
Sphere of information- region of country in which the imperial power has high trading rights.

Anonymous said...

Also, to add to colonialism:
- real political, economic, social control..

- two tuypes of colonies:
settler- most population is from imperial power
nonsettler- most population is original.

the concept/ impact/ effects of (Nationalism)

Anonymous said...

well.
concept of nationalism- luv for your country.
effects- leads to unification of germany,
-after civil war, U.S was unified truly as people now stated themselves as americans not southrners or northerners or by state.
-slavic nationalist movements
-conservatives and liberals work together to help their country.
causes-
- napoleans reign of taking over other countries, which had nationalism and wanted freedom. wanted to protect their country as that happens everytime there is a war.

Rudyard Kipling was the black mans burden guy but did he do anything alse?
and can someone help me with the gens de couleur?

Unknown said...

Marxist idelolgy?

Unknown said...

and i know this may sound stupid, but can anyone explain capitalism in VERY simple terms? the only thing i understand about it is that it has to do with money

Anonymous said...

rudyard kipling wrote White Man's Burden, and he wrote the jungle book, and he's just important because i think he shows how europeans truly thought of imperialism as they thougth that the white men were helping the others, but it was truly the other way.

gens de couler- they were the free people of color that wanted freedom from spain in latin america so that their social structure would change.

Unknown said...

thank you very much

Anonymous said...

Carl Marx was the founder and he was a socialist that went against company owners and the way things worked during the industrial revolution. has a violent reaction to industrialization (factories) wages, treatment..etc..comes up with communist manifest.

Anonymous said...

alright,

capitalism is when the government plays no role in businesses..the businesses run upon competition and thier rates aren't controlled by the government. do you remember the example mr.p gave about the bakery. to add to the marx thing..he was against capitalism..

Unknown said...

and socialism is when the government has full control over economy?

Anonymous said...

what is laissez faire?

Unknown said...

government has no hand in economy is lasiez fair thing. its the invisible hand :] hippies

Unknown said...

so i guess its the same as capitalism?

Anonymous said...

not really, socialism is when they want slow or moderate change in the way things work in the industrial world...like they wantedto alleviate the social and economic problems created by capitalism and industrialization.sought to expand enlightenment understandings..they were different from communists cause they didn't want to really use violence like the communists did....does that help?

Anonymous said...

oh! thanks!

Unknown said...

ya so
capitalism- gov not in economy
socialism- slow change and goal was to fix capitalism
communism- ?? violence?

Anonymous said...

What is Toussaint L'Ouverture?

Anonymous said...

communism- violence used to change capitalism

Unknown said...

i hate this cycle....ugh so socialism and communism were both reactions to capitalism but communism was violent and socialism was idealistic?

Unknown said...

Toussaint L'Ouverture
organized the Haitian slaves during their rebellion and Napoleon killed him in the end

Anonymous said...

Toussaint l'ouverture was the free colored man that led the slave revolt against the spanish in Haiti, he got them out of haiti..he uses tactics to turn the british and spanish against each other so that the slaves have less war to fight since the europeans killed each other off..

Anonymous said...

delaney,

correct!

Anonymous said...

Wow, I totally didn't even know he was a person...thanks (:

jessicafritz said...

does anyone know the reason for the revolution in France and Latin America?

Unknown said...

sweet! ok i think i now understand politics! now i can be president:]

Unknown said...

france was cuz of the government thing. the first one with the 3 estates and the 3rd one broke off

jessicafritz said...

Okay, and what about Latin America?

Unknown said...

latin america was because of seeing all the other countries having revolutions and they wanted to get in on it.....i think

Anonymous said...

france was because of the american revolution because they used so much money to help the americans that the king had to raise the taxes, which led to revolt, especially because the third estate had to pay most of the taxes while the first and second were kind of free

Latin American because they saw what happened in U.S and they also wanted freedom and mainly the ability to represent themselves in the spanish governemtn.

jessicafritz said...

Okay, and what does "premise" mean for "the premise of the Decleration of the Rights of Man"?

Anonymous said...

"premise" is likethe main point of the thing..so what was the point of the Declaration of the Rights of Man? in other words...

Anonymous said...

i think the point ofthe declaration..was libert, equality, and fraternity..

jessicafritz said...

Okay, thanks so much! :)

German & Italian Unification ??

Anonymous said...

who is Cecil Rhodes?

Anonymous said...

cecil rhodes wanted to unite africa form north to south.

i cant find what social darwinism is in my notes i just have (1860)'s

Anonymous said...

im not completely sure about german and italian unification but it might have something to do with nationalism. Because when the french revolution was going on they declared war on everybody, prussia, austria, netherlands, etc. and they had to work together which caused nationalism

cori kempshall said...

whats the congress of vienna?

Anonymous said...

social darwinism is when darwin's "survival of the Fittest" is used in the social classes. Could be used to say why the wealthy are so wealthy. Used to justify european domination

Anonymous said...

"the congress of vienna was held by great britain, prussia, austria, etc. to put europe back together after napolean's rule in france, which messed up traditional europe"

I stole this from nidhi in the posts before. thanks nidhi!! hahaha

Anonymous said...

what were the effects on the upper class due to the Industrial Rev.

AND YES...more on the Italian and German Unification

Anonymous said...

Britsh east india company???

Alexandra Kaye said...

that's a good question ashley. He went over alot of the negatives for the lower class but not much on the positives for the upper class. I think that the upper class bebnfitted from all the new technology and workers that they had. The upper class would probably include the factory owners and peolpe like that so that makes sense.

Anonymous said...

i went to eat dinner...but anywho...

German and Italian unification:
-Otto Von Bismark was the uniter of germany...he used tactics to incite nationalism in other countries to have war and then take over that country, and he united southern prussia, since it was catholic they were kind of against each other, by warring with another catholic country and s.prussia supported the n.prussians because of nationalism ( they were brothers even if they were of different religions).

Italy was united by two people, comillo di cavoni and garibaldi. comillo started from sardinia and garibaldi started from sicily and both met to unite italy in the middle. the church only got vatican city.

social darwinism was used by the europeans to justify their actions and feelings of superiority and of being a higher race. ofcourse they interpreted darwin wrongly and totally messed up society.

by the upper class, do you mean the nobles and peoples? well if thats it then they definetely lost power, and the power was shifted to the factories. they weren't able to control the industrialization with their money because there was no importance for them.

the british east indian company. were obviously involved with india, they took advantage of the mughal decline. they built trading cities and forts at calcutta, madras and bombay. and they ruled with a british force and also the indian troops called sepoys. but were the british east indian company the ones who made the sepoys open bullet cartridges made out of animal fat?

Anonymous said...

thebritish east india compnay was a trading company set up in india to control british trade and affairs in india..the company however took control from the mughals and started the british rule in india...the company wasn't too succesful due to the sepoy revolt so after that india was ruled by the british gov. directly.

Anonymous said...

maggie,
yes, that is why the sepoys rebelled against them, and as i said the company was moved out of the way and the brtish gov. directly ruled india.

Kevin_Shin said...

What were the concept /impact/effects of nationalism?

Anonymous said...

I don't really remember when we talked about Italy. How did Comillo and Garibaldi unite Italy? I know that they started from opposite ends and worked inward, but how did they go about this?

Anonymous said...

Kevin,
Nationalism is having extreme pride for your country. It helped the different countries unite, but it also created rivalvries between them because they want their country to stay the best. And it also drove colonialism because the people thought that if you had more colonies, you had more power, and so everyone wanted their country to have the most power.

lydia huh said...

what was the theory/concept of Laissez faire

Abbi Edwards said...

can someone please explain in simple terms enlightenment. I do understand it, simple terms would just help me a lot :]

madison archer said...

I think laissez-faire was part of the capitalist movement where people like Adam Smith said that the government didn't need to regulate the economy and that it would regulate itself.

Anonymous said...

Laisezz Faire was the "invisible hand"...

Enlightenment was when people got more into the beliefs of equality and chagnes in social systems...there were scientific discoveries and that led to religion being pushed back..overall people actually thougth for themselves..

Tyler said...

Can someone tell me about the institution of slavery on the island of st. Domingue?

Alec Livaditis said...

St. Domingue is Haiti before independence from France Tyler.

Anonymous said...

well, i just figured out that st.domingue is haiti, haha, but it's institution of slavery was ike all others i guess. a lot of slaves were freed during robespiere rule, but when napolean came he brought slavery back which led to a lot of revolt. other than that im not sure what it is/.

thanks!

Alec Livaditis said...

gens de colour is your free blacks in Haiti, 500 went to fight in the American Rev., when Whites Haiti wanted independence they did not want to grant rights to free blacks. While they fought, slaves saw an oppurtunity and the slaves ulitmately won.

angiem said...

ohhh, okay.
thanks alec!

Roosevelt Corollary ??

Alec Livaditis said...

um....

http://nghsapworld.blogspot.com/2009/02/roosevelt-corollary-to-monroe-doctrine.html

The Roosevelt corollary said that the US can intervene in the domestic affairs of nations within the hemisphere if they demonstrated an inability to maintain the security deemed necessary to protect US investments.

Hey does anhyone know what he sepoy mutiny was????

Please help?

Kirsten said...

The Sepoy Rebellion was against the British East India Company, and it was because they soaked their cartriges in animal fat, which was against hindu and muslim religions. Then Great Britain stepped in to take over and made India a colony

KelseyBengochea said...
