Matthew Voicu and I were the only people out of everybody that voted rifles as the best invention. I was also proud to find I was one of the few who perferred Last of the Mohicans.

Anyway, I don't think Patriot or Slumdog Millionaire would be considered as set during season three. Season three ends at 1750.

Best Government: The Mughals under Akbar [absolutism]. Though his contemporaries did not see the value in his system, we see today that his religious tolerance and welfare systems were the beginnings of modern systems of ruling. I think it resembles the system that the United States is using, as far as religious tolerance and such goes.
Most Influential Society: Western society. Russia aspired to be like the West (which were merely selective aspects that did not work unless they were all combined together) and the other societies were all motivated or driven to do certain things because of the West. The Ottomans, Safavids, and Mughals all faced a decline because they avoided the West. Japan was successful because they were the East Asian version of the West.
Most Influential Person: I believe the most influential person during this time period was Louis XIV.
Best Leader: Louis XIV. His sure absolutism was the best example of absolutism at that time. His influence was the absolutism that rulers such as Peter, of Russia, followed.
Worst Leader: I would like to nominate a category or horrible leaders. I would like to nominate the drug addicted sultans of the late Safavid empire. Because they were locked up and with harems and drugs by their fathers for fear of premature acquiring of the throne, they did not learn how to rule properly. This led to a series of assassinations and a chain of rulers that had no impact and that were weak with no power.
Best Conflict:
Best Social System: I think the best social system was that of the Japanese. Their controlled social system was able to evade the Europeans. They were able to maintain their own identity and recognize the impact the Europeans were going to have after watching the example of the Ottomans and Safavids and how they ignored the Europeans, and how the Americas faced a downfall by succumbing to them. The Japanese used their knowledge to utilize European knowledge and improve upon it. This is seen in how they bought Portuguese guns, and then used their knowledge to become independent of European supply of gunpowder and weapons.
Most Influential Belief System: Islam. Islam drove the conquering ‘Gunpowder Empires’ to conquer territories in the name of Islam. The conflicts between the belief systems the Shia and Sunni Muslims were driving forces that led to conflicts and tensions in Persia and the Safavids. Islam also brought upon the conflicts in India and the Mughal Empire with the Hindus. Islam was a prominent aspect throughout Season 3.
Best Economic System: The best economic system was that of the Japanese. It was a completely independent economic system. They never became dependent on Europeans, thus they didn’t have the opportunity to become westernized and face domination. They already had western-like qualities that allowed them to hold their own instead of needing the Europeans.
Best Labor System: For best labor system I nominate Western Europe. Their utilization of labor in the Americas was a very profitable way to grow cash crops for profit without straining their labor force that was growing food for consumption.
Worst Labor System: The Russian serf system. If they wanted to become westernized, then they should have moved away from such primitive feudal systems because it was holding Russia back.
Best Invention: Cross staffs and back staffs. These allowed mariners to determine direction and latitude and help them navigate through oceanic waters with more accuracy than before.

Most Influential Writer: Martin Luther. His start of Protestantism was the foundation for a new outlook on the world. It also contributed to persecution that drove the people in the colonies of America to reside there. His thesis was a foundation that challenged the Roman Catholic Church, something that few had ever thought of doing. With this, I think he deserves a place in the Whappy Awards.
Best Cultural Contribution: I’d have to nominate the science contributions by Newton and Kepler [etc.] to be important ideas and how focus was shifting from survival to analysis. It showed enlightened ideas and how people were beginning to expand their thoughts and innovativeness.
Best Film Set During Season 3 Nominees: The Last of the Mohicans [my nominee] I think the Las of the Mohicans would be a good choice because it mainly focuses on Western conflicts in the Americas, which was a significant impact on global society during that time.
