Alec Livaditis's guide to scoring above a seven on AP World essays.
I believe that with enough preparation, and with knowledge of the topic before the essay is given, anyone is capable of scoring at least a 7 or above.
To do this you must:
a. be serious It will not take 30 minutes to prepare for an essay, it will likely take hours.
b. "Want" the 7, 8, or 9 enough. You will basically be doing nothing but preparing for the essay and doing other homework for the rest of the night.
If you are serious about scoring a 7 or above, read Lisa Simpson's guide which is posted very early in the archives
My strategy for preparing for essays is to:
1. Search through my notes to see what points must be presented.
2. Look through the blog to find documents which will help me prove my point.
3. Create an outline and make sure your points are even. Not too many differences or changes.
4. READ the documents, you can't only list primary documents, they must be relevant to the topic and the point you are trying to make. You must understand te importance of the document.
5. Organize your argument in an outline, and attach documents to each point you are arguing.
6. When the hour is late, do a practice essay to make sure you will be able to remember the details and documents without them in front of you.
I wish Alec could write my essay. I'm having a hard time finding important things that stayed the same because it seems like everything important is changing. Does anyone have any major examples of things that stayed the same?
It does seem as everything is changing. Do you think that European economic dominance and control over the other regions could be considered a continuity?
What about agriculture in the America's? Before Europeans arrived, the economy was based on agriculture, and after Europeans arrived, the economy was still based on agricultre for the most part.
Slavery I don't think would work because before European interaction slave trade was not a primary economic activity.
would how africans were regarded count as a change? since before they were known for great cities and gold, and now the africans are lower on the social scale.
with slavery economically, couldn't it be used? like talking about the european involvement now in slave trade, along with how it changes in regards to the gender of slaves and slavery eventually not being profitable.
uhh.. Alina. Although I'm not sure if its right...I agree with you from your last post. I do think the whole idea of westernization occured after the drastic change from the West. And now they have the most power....but I think we need to be more specific on why its a ECONOMIC change.
but then again I DONT KNOW I need helpp too. OHhhhhh ALEC!!
Alina- encomienda to Mita would be an economic change. I would explain why it rose in power and what it has to do with the atlantic world to count as an econ change. There are some great slavery documents in December.
i was thinking that since europe was rising in power, it was because they were getting a bit away from agriculture and more into manufacturing and mining, part of which took place in the americas, which of course can be related to china.
Mr Prill I'm only judging by time frames here: but the scientific revolution seemed to start at the begining of European exploration, and then later the enlightenment. Does it have to do with discovering the Americas?
well i'm only having four things i'm talking about, but of course all the countries get connected. i just need a social change. if anyone could name a few that would be awsome.
agriculture was ahuge part in slavery and econ remember? they sent most of the slaves to the carribean to work on farm things right? wouldnt a social change be the new classes in latin america?
we're focusing too much on europe. over half the essay needs africa and the americas. i think a social change in africa would be the population decrease due to the demand for slaves.
relate it to china because of their need for silver. the silver mines were dangerous, but they kept it up because they wanted chinese goods and needed something to trade with china. idk, i don't think japan really has much to do with much of what we're writing about.
i think the aztecs required the tribute of crops. i think for incas it was labor.
Don't you think that the European superiority over slaves is a social continuity becuase it never changes....
I mean it wasn't as large as the triangular trade after the discovery of americas but Africans have been traded for slaves since the beginning...ex gold/salt trade and Slaves
lets see dependent in 1600s-1700s spain(on england) portugal(on england) africa russia ottomans (i think b/c they had major gunpowder) mughals im not sure when china became dependent.
hey lora cna you expand a little bit on that the african king social cont. I round the document I think....but I still dont understand why that would be social cont.??
i propose a trade-off. the best of yours for the best of mine. I need continuities...of both kinds. i can help you with the changes, though. it seems as though nothing stayed the same.
SOCIAL:
switch of heirarchy from birth-based to race-based
results of gun/slave trade in Africa
sonic boom of slavery (which had major reprocussions in a number of areas)
ECONOMIC:
switch of encomienda system to mita system
growing popularity of siver trade
now your turn. if anyone can thing of ANYTHING, anything at all that stayed the same, please let me know.
Because it started EVERYTHING! They needed to find a route to India so they started around africa so they found slaves and some got lost in the americas so they became dependednt on colonies...
i still think slavery can be social and econ. b/c it decreased population in africa(even though it eventually rose again), increased pop in the americas and created new social classes
then it gave europe major money! and labor to make money.
chelsea- for social continuity, i'm doing patriarchal which can be connected to anywhere.
for economic continuity i'm using slavery. it had begun years ago between the middle east in africa, and just expanded a bit, but was still continuing based off of profit. plus it still continues today.
For social continuity is probably slavery of african region or remurgence of miha(spaniards actullay borrowed this from incans). For social change in africa is the fragmentation in the region due to europeans trading guns to kingdoms and local tribes who were against kingdoms.
global snapshot would be how europe tries to find a path to asia because of the ottoman empire. along the way they find the americas, and start going there. they also have been traveling to africa a lot along the way, and now have a need for slaves from africa to work in the americas. now that they have a way to asia and goods from the americas they can trade with china.
would a social change be that catherine the great wanted to westernize by helping peasants rights go up but instead she went the other way by helping buyor's power to increase just because she was one?
ha ha I just had to help my mom find the phone. She pressed the PAGE button but couldn't find it. It was in the loft. (-: hochan-that'll work for continuity
ok, i got a total detail thingy for economic change:
so for agriculture in america, the book says that the agriculture was mainly european foodcrops not much american..i'm not sure if its right but the book says so, on page 679
i think bureacracy in the americas would kinda be a change, since it especially wasn't in the aztec empire, and i'm sure it was different with europeans than with incas.
So, im trying to figure out how to relate all this to places other than europe, americas, and africa. help? =[ Also, i can't find a continuity for social and a change for economy? Change for economy- spanish minuing for silver>
sapp-- think of everything that silver trade entailed: more slaves, more firearms to trade to get slaves, more firearms in africa, africans with firearms conquering more land, getting more slaves, to trade with europeans, to get more guns, europeans get more silver, to trade with china, demand rises... a viscious circle appears.
ooooo! i never thought of the whole patriarcal one!! its good. my sis just tried to dip her fries in her fried chicken... srry. neway, im gonna look up stuff on women and protestants.
Wow thank yall =] the two economic contin. i have down are european dominance in everywhere (except Japan) and how in the americas agriculture was always the main thing. (Natives were big on agriculture and when the europeans came with their slaves they also made a lot of money and all because of agriculture)
yeah thats true =] any time! can anyone help me with a thesis? maybe give an example of one or something? I'm absolutely HORRIBLE with thesis statements =[
Also, when i read a document or the book, i dont understand half of the things that they say so most of the things i get are from prills lectures/ my notes or the blog, so if i want to make refrences, how do I do that? or should i just leave out the refrences?
u need to have references..im about to go and really find document now, cause i had to go eat dinner, but brooke, if i find something good ill totally tell yall
when europe traded with china (using the things that they got from the americas) what did they trade? did europe mainly trade silver with china? and what did china give europe that they needed in return?
for a social change, would the misegenation with europeans and natives, and europeans and slaves be accurate? with the mestizos and such, the new social classes were introduced: the conquerers, the conquered and the slaves.
when europe traded with china (using the things that they got from the americas) what did they trade? did europe mainly trade silver with china? and what did china give europe that they needed in return?
nidhi- the patriarchal society stuff is that society was just still patriarchal in europe, africa, america, and the rest of the world. in europe this is noted by how women were regarded with protestants. men were also considered more valuable than women, which is seen by how it was mostly men taken from africa.
brooke- for documents, that mostly just means historical evidence. like what happened in history that caused something or an example of what ur talking about. if ur thinking of referencing, then just think to the links on the documents and try and remember who wrote it.
I found through my class notes and find out that europeans were inded mining silver in their homelands until they ran out and had to find a new mine, which was of course america. I guess that is indeed economic continuity because many european countries traded before and after the era of 1400-1700. Besides this i am out of ideas
by the way yall, you might want to say that europeans were fueling the fire in africa to keep way going on there so that they would have a constant demand for firearms and a constant way to get the slaves they wanted in return =] (just some explination if yall are going to talk about something regarding trade between africa and europe for slaves...)
DANGIT! so now silver mining can't be an econic change? could it kindaaaa be a change because no one had mined in the americas before this since they had no need for silver because they were isolated from the rest of the world at that time?? =] so its kinda a change right? haha im desperate
Kris, Social cont.: patriarchal societies. very constant throughout the world. Economic cont.:agriculture in the americs (the isolated natives and european settlers both were very agriculturally based)
silver mining can still kinda be an economic change. europe had trouble before with trading with china because they didn't have much to trade. they may have had silver, but it wasn't much. if u remember, the silver mines in brazil were also dangerous, but the reason they kept mining is to get silver to trade with china. it just kinda increased trade, the silver in america.
Hey Brooke probably the most economic change is the emergence of dependent zones of europe. Before 1400 Europe was nothing but a weak region until they have developed good ships while other regions of the world were suffering through mongol invasion. By using guns and other new technology to trade with regions, many regions like africa have become dependent zone
Report of a French slave trader talks about a ruined town in africa that he thinks was really involved in slave trade
A SLave Trade Agreement is an agreement in which the king of kilwa agrees to trade slaves for 2 guns for each slave. it just proves how the king was kept in power jsut for trade.
so, historical evidence can be documents and things tht happened right? but wouldn't that just be giving everything away to the thesis, then we'd have nothing left for the rest of the essay..
If I had two economic changes and one social change and then used slavery as a economic and social continuity would I get all 4 points if I explained why slavery is both an economic and social continuit? I'm not trying to get out of writing more I just have a couple good points on why slavery is an economic and a social continuity.

nidhi, yes and no. aren't you supposed to talk about breif things (social and econ. changes and cont.) then in your body talk about the specific historical evidence and explain WHY that happened and how it effected everyone else in the world or in another country?? or am i wrong, if i am please correct me. im so bad at thesis statements but what i said sounds similar to what prill says... i think, right??
wow.. alright. so does anyone think that a social change would be the fact that african provinces were once male dominated and sorta contrlled but due to the high demand of male slaves, women became the dominate leader in africa???? ah thats in my notes but i have no idea if that right. it doesnt sound right to me, but Anybody, help?!?!
people! I found a website with helpful things! :) http://home.comcast.net/~mruland/WorldResources/1450-1750/Reg.html#amer
check it out.. It's a teacher's website...but it has helpful information! I'm trying to find some primary documents on the America's, more or less. Mr. Prill you use google documents, right? Also, can China, etc to the east be included? In the snapshot, I assume, but with globalization, the rest of the world is included in the Atlantic?
Sean wouldnt personal wealth be a continuity because everyone already had personal wealth. And because of personal gain they wanted to expand and get more money. So they went and mined in a foreign country for that money. Personal wealth just seems to drive the whole expedition right? If i'm wrong then im sorry.
oh maggie. i have that social changes are they deveolpment of europes world ish power, the classes in the americas between the spanish and the natives(mezitos and stuff) and then the fact that skin color was a factor to class ranking rather than birth now. i have another one, but no one is answering me so idk if its right!
Abbi that was somewhat true because remember in the Americas they remebered that they could save money by bringing in the woman. so their reign was short lived.
hhahaha yah abbi it makes sense. thanks! and i agree with leeshah too cuz they wanted to bring in women so they could give birth to little baby slaves.
yah i have an econ continuity. Im saying agriculture in the Americas. because before the europeans came it was based on agriculture.(look at aztecs and incas) and after it still kinda was. ( I actually got that idea from alec) thanks Alec! :]
well everyone has been saying slavery. and that is true because the native people there started using and selling their own people and they continued using and selling them for their own personal gain. THe only thing that changed was that it became much bigger, spreading out to everywhere in the world.
thats what i have for mine, do you have anything else?
yeah i always thought slavery was a social continuity though, bacause it was the people who socially were changed, even though it did affect the economy too. and yeah Mags!! thats what i have for my econ continuity too. sweet.
I agree with MAggie just because she is saying the Americas. If you look at the Incas they were largely agricultural with their tributes and labor. And it is continued because the foreigners didnt find gold but found good planting...
i think that would be a good continuity wouldnt it?
Question: Wouldn't the whole Europe being regarded as a independent zone/ dominating the Atlantic trade network be untrue? Because what about when both Spain and Portugal become dependent on England for its technology to mine silver?
rachel, since you need to connect the essay with the rest of the world, you can say that the silver mining was fueled by China's desire to get silver, and the Europeans who wanted chinese goods

would slavery be considered social?? if so hasn't slavery always existed... therefore it has never changed??
I really don't know
So Mr. Prill, do you want 1 econ change, 1 econ cont, 1 social change, and 1 social cont for each region?
that would be the most balanced approach.
What about agriculture in the America's? Before Europeans arrived, the economy was based on agriculture, and after Europeans arrived, the economy was still based on agricultre for the most part.

Then what social approaches are you going to take on the essay?
social as in: patriarchal society
continuity
would switching from the encomnienda system to the mita system by considered an economic change?
would europe in general as a rising power be an economic change?
help!!
with slavery economically, couldn't it be used? like talking about the european involvement now in slave trade, along with how it changes in regards to the gender of slaves and slavery eventually not being profitable.

i need help with social changes!
I also just came across this thing that the Europeans learned how to grow sugar in the Americas, which increased it's wealth in a huge way.
where Alina?
was any of europe's ecnomy the same?
Mr Prill
I'm only judging by time frames here: but the scientific revolution seemed to start at the begining of European exploration, and then later the enlightenment. Does it have to do with discovering the Americas?
well i'm only having four things i'm talking about, but of course all the countries get connected. i just need a social change. if anyone could name a few that would be awsome.
the scientific revolution is post-"exploration" largely
whoops, jk
had the wrong date down.
i wondered about that huge gap..
be back in a few.
i thought slavery was one of the primary activities of the Europeans..?
agriculture was ahuge part in slavery and econ remember? they sent most of the slaves to the carribean to work on farm things right? wouldnt a social change be the new classes in latin america?
SOCAIAL CHANGES ANYONE???
that would be social change in the Americas. Europe is very frustrating.
Like, Vanessa said, emergence of a new soical hierchy in the Americas.
wouldn't manufacturing, mining, and trade in europe still be an economic change?
what would be an economic continutity?
Mr Prill
Did the enlightenment or scientific revolution have anything to do with "Exploration"?
Alina-
good question
)-:
what were the periods of time for the essay again?
Mr Prill,
Are documents going to be given to us like in a DBQ? If we are, are we supposed to use them all?
what was a mestizo again?
the time period is somewhere between 1400's to 1700's
Maggie-
1492-1750
jacob- no documents are gonna be given.
no documents are given, any historical evidence you provide will be from off of the top of your head.
a mestizo is someone mixed of european and american ancestry.
maggie,
1450-1700 i think
for economic continuity would all the zones becoming independant on each other be a good one?
we're focusing too much on europe. over half the essay needs africa and the americas. i think a social change in africa would be the population decrease due to the demand for slaves.
for social change, i'm actually using the new social hiearchy in the americas and relating it to both africa and europe as well.
hi,
would an economic change be that the spanish based most of their economy around silver mining?
isnt everyone except japan dependent on europe though? which is an econ change.
and an increase in the americas..
nidhi- i guess that would be good, since originally they were just mostly agricultural. remember to relate it to china.
that's becuase Europe is the hard one!
Africa- The king lost most of his power with such an increase in the slave trade.
idk, that 's just all i need left is an economic continuity.
So I know the whole "new" social heirachy created after the discover of the americas BUT WHAT IS A SOCIAL CONT??? stays the same??
anyone ???anyone??
how do we relate it to china? was it because the chinese needed silver or was that the japanese?
nessa-
I don't think so many places were dependednt on Europe at the time.
in addition to mining spain was a lion w/out teeth
what is mercantalism exactly?
Was it the Aztecs or Incas that demanded a tribute of Crops?
China, I'm pretty sure
Mercantalism-
econ policy based on self-sufficiency through colonies. Export more than u import.
i think its the aztecs cause i know the incas had labor a s tribute
relate it to china because of their need for silver. the silver mines were dangerous, but they kept it up because they wanted chinese goods and needed something to trade with china. idk, i don't think japan really has much to do with much of what we're writing about.
i think the aztecs required the tribute of crops. i think for incas it was labor.
anyone get a social continuity yet?
Don't you think that the European superiority over slaves is a social continuity becuase it never changes....
I mean it wasn't as large as the triangular trade after the discovery of americas but Africans have been traded for slaves since the beginning...ex gold/salt trade and Slaves
now its the gun/slave trade
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
social cont for where?
nearing 1750 they were dependent
lets see dependent in 1600s-1700s
spain(on england)
portugal(on england)
africa
russia
ottomans (i think b/c they had major gunpowder)
mughals
im not sure when china became dependent.
does anybody have an economic continuity>
just for anywhere..
social cont in Africa-
Kept a king even though he was losing so much power. Even relied on Nobles to try and comtrol slave trade (December Document)
i think japan is important because w europe was practically controlling the entire world- except japan.
would slavery be a good economic continuity? u know since it had started years before, and just continued, and is technically still around today.
wat was the name of the africa doc?
wasn't it congo? i remember it was the congolese who were buying the guns from the portugese i think.
but slavery increased dramatically. it was necessary to run things in the americas, whereas before it wasnt needed to do things- there were serfs.
hey lora cna you expand a little bit on that the african king social cont. I round the document I think....but I still dont understand why that would be social cont.??
wouldn't we be able to connect the silver mining to the turks, like mr.p said in clss?
Political Breakdown in Kongo.
good stuff
i think exploration would be closer to the turks, but that led to silver mining
EVERTYHING can be connected to the turks, that's what started "Exploration" Isn't it?
i propose a trade-off. the best of yours for the best of mine. I need continuities...of both kinds. i can help you with the changes, though. it seems as though nothing stayed the same.
SOCIAL:
switch of heirarchy from birth-based to race-based

ECONOMIC:
switch of encomienda system to mita system
growing popularity of siver trade
now your turn. if anyone can thing of ANYTHING, anything at all that stayed the same, please let me know.
but why lora is it social or even really important?
social continuity in W Europe anyone?
slavery expanded, but it wasn't a new thing. and like before it was based off of what was profitable.
Because it started EVERYTHING! They needed to find a route to India so they started around africa so they found slaves and some got lost in the americas so they became dependednt on colonies...
It's worth mentioning SOMEWHERE.
Where did Alec go?
LIVADITIS IF YOU AREN'T OUT HERE SOON I'LL FIND YOU MYSELF!!!
alec, where r u? please help!!!
i still think slavery can be social and econ. b/c it decreased population in africa(even though it eventually rose again), increased pop in the americas and created new social classes
then it gave europe major money! and labor to make money.
chelsea- for social continuity, i'm doing patriarchal which can be connected to anywhere.
for economic continuity i'm using slavery. it had begun years ago between the middle east in africa, and just expanded a bit, but was still continuing based off of profit. plus it still continues today.
nessa i agree but would it be a change or continuity?
u guys r mean! dont toture alec! ur not gonna learn if someone gives it to you.
slavery increased more than a bit.
slavery, economically didn't change in africa. socially it changed things, but economically it was what they always did.
Grrr...
Europe is very frustrating.
Europe is making me type weird: I meant social change.
i wasn't mean!! i was begging!!!! i can learn if someone teaches to me!!! my notes aren't good!!!
anyhoot! could we talk about the potato, and relate it somehow?
So what are we doing here Nessa?
which is a change
slvery did change africa economically bc they were trading slaves for guns to expand
Potatoes went everywhere didn't they? Even as far as China?
nidhi- we could talk about potatoes. europe got them from the americas and introduced them to china which was good for trade.
For social continuity is probably slavery of african region or remurgence of miha(spaniards actullay borrowed this from incans).
For social change in africa is the fragmentation in the region due to europeans trading guns to kingdoms and local tribes who were against kingdoms.
vanessa- in that case, have an economic continuity?
potatos travel
a lot
around the world.
they provided food during times when people were poor and needed food.
major money crop i think.
the economic in africa CHANGED due to need for european guns.
what's an economic continuity anywhere?
ok so globally, what would be a global snapshot?
hmmm.. im gonna leave for a bit to find some sort of continuity.
Nidhi-
THE TURKS!!!
global snapshot would be how europe tries to find a path to asia because of the ottoman empire. along the way they find the americas, and start going there. they also have been traveling to africa a lot along the way, and now have a need for slaves from africa to work in the americas. now that they have a way to asia and goods from the americas they can trade with china.
i need economic continuity!
Nidhi-
You could probably also throw the Portugese forcing India to trade with them somewhere.
I believe the economic change would be mercantalism because europeans started try to benefit themselves by setting up colonies.
And I hope this is right for the continuty of economy: Europe's desire of mining silver in order to trade with China.
I don't know hochan, they weren't much interested in minign before the Americas were they?
Lora (and Alina), my notes actually say that a meztizo was a mix between spanish and a native american...
-Sapp
hochan i think that was a change
um...spanish is european.
i'm pretty sure that's what i said earlier...unless ur getting into specifics.
Lora, im not sure if hochan is right, but did they really have anywhere to mine before the discovery of the americas? just a thought, idk...
-Sapp.
Hey guys can this work too for social change? Decrease in native populatioin in americas due to smallpox
Or:
for continuity: The continuing fragmentaion of europe because of the religious conflicts between protestant and catholics
Mr. Prill
My notes say that some ppl fled europe to the colonies to escape religious perescution. Who were they?
OH NO! I went mind blank. lol. i was just reading my notes and not really thinking about it hahahaha! my baddd =]
Sapp
hochan-
As far as social in Americas I would talk about the huge number of new social classes.
hochan,
the continuity has only to do with europe, does that work???
yeah thats what i have for one of the social changes
would a social change be that catherine the great wanted to westernize by helping peasants rights go up but instead she went the other way by helping buyor's power to increase just because she was one?
ha ha
I just had to help my mom find the phone. She pressed the PAGE button but couldn't find it. It was in the loft.
(-:
hochan-that'll work for continuity
brooke- problem with that social change is that the topic is about atlantic trade, which russia wasn't really involved in
Can use of bucreacy in the colonial americas be continuity or change?
Brooke-
What does that have to do with Atlantis trade?
I guess u couold tie it in to the growing power of the west.
ok, i got a total detail thingy for economic change:
so for agriculture in america, the book says that the agriculture was mainly european foodcrops not much american..i'm not sure if its right but the book says so, on page 679
hochan-
change
i think bureacracy in the americas would kinda be a change, since it especially wasn't in the aztec empire, and i'm sure it was different with europeans than with incas.
So, im trying to figure out how to relate all this to places other than europe, americas, and africa. help? =[
Also, i can't find a continuity for social and a change for economy?
Change for economy- spanish minuing for silver>
yeah the incas had split inheritance so not really bureaucracy
Hey I checked the old archive and found something useful: Protestant and Woman
my eyes need a break from the computer.
be back later, maybe.
Hey I checked the old archive and found something useful: Protestant and Woman
i'm gonna go look at some documents...
Lora, that's probably a good idea. im not so good at this stuff haha.
brooke- do u have a good economic continuity?! do share!
social continuity- patriarchal society
economic change- europe become involved in trade, manufacturing, and mining.
u can connect the second one by talking about how they did this in the americas with slaves from africa, and trading with asia.
sapp--
think of everything that silver trade entailed: more slaves, more firearms to trade to get slaves, more firearms in africa, africans with firearms conquering more land, getting more slaves, to trade with europeans, to get more guns, europeans get more silver, to trade with china, demand rises...
a viscious circle appears.
question on your potato discussion from earlier: was that an economis change?
Would that just be a change from the other crops sold or what?
...involving a lot more of the world than you'd think.
i don't really think potatos work as a change...
economic continuity please!!
ooooo! i never thought of the whole patriarcal one!! its good.
my sis just tried to dip her fries in her fried chicken... srry. neway, im gonna look up stuff on women and protestants.
Wow thank yall =]
the two economic contin. i have down are european dominance in everywhere (except Japan)
and how in the americas agriculture was always the main thing. (Natives were big on agriculture and when the europeans came with their slaves they also made a lot of money and all because of agriculture)
thanks brooke! the second one is really good! the first one may be a little iffy though since european dominance was new.
yeah thats true =] any time!
can anyone help me with a thesis? maybe give an example of one or something?
I'm absolutely HORRIBLE with thesis statements =[
Also, when i read a document or the book, i dont understand half of the things that they say so most of the things i get are from prills lectures/ my notes or the blog, so if i want to make refrences, how do I do that? or should i just leave out the refrences?
whats this all about patriarchal society?
u need to have references..im about to go and really find document now, cause i had to go eat dinner, but brooke, if i find something good ill totally tell yall
Ummm.. I am out of ideas but keep on going you guys!
when europe traded with china (using the things that they got from the americas) what did they trade? did europe mainly trade silver with china? and what did china give europe that they needed in return?
for a social change, would the misegenation with europeans and natives, and europeans and slaves be accurate? with the mestizos and such, the new social classes were introduced: the conquerers, the conquered and the slaves.

yes that'd be right about misegenation.
Thank you so much nidhi!!!! =]
nidhi- the patriarchal society stuff is that society was just still patriarchal in europe, africa, america, and the rest of the world. in europe this is noted by how women were regarded with protestants. men were also considered more valuable than women, which is seen by how it was mostly men taken from africa.
brooke- for documents, that mostly just means historical evidence. like what happened in history that caused something or an example of what ur talking about. if ur thinking of referencing, then just think to the links on the documents and try and remember who wrote it.
I found through my class notes and find out that europeans were inded mining silver in their homelands until they ran out and had to find a new mine, which was of course america. I guess that is indeed economic continuity because many european countries traded before and after the era of 1400-1700. Besides this i am out of ideas
by the way yall, you might want to say that europeans were fueling the fire in africa to keep way going on there so that they would have a constant demand for firearms and a constant way to get the slaves they wanted in return =]
(just some explination if yall are going to talk about something regarding trade between africa and europe for slaves...)
China traded with Europe for porcelain and silk for silver
DANGIT! so now silver mining can't be an econic change?
could it kindaaaa be a change because no one had mined in the americas before this since they had no need for silver because they were isolated from the rest of the world at that time?? =]
so its kinda a change right? haha im desperate
What would be more social and economic continuities? i have quite a bit of changes for both. and does anyone know some good primary documents?
i have a change and continuity for social part....
Change-class separation in the Americas (peninsulares, criolles, mestizos, and other classes)
Continuity- social structure of Europe....Europe remained decentralized for example Christopher Columbus was Spanish and James Cook was from England
kris- look back in the archives to late november and december, there should be alot of documents there.
Kris,
Social cont.: patriarchal societies. very constant throughout the world.
Hey Brooke
probably the most economic change is the emergence of dependent zones of europe. Before 1400 Europe was nothing but a weak region until they have developed good ships while other regions of the world were suffering through mongol invasion. By using guns and other new technology to trade with regions, many regions like africa have become dependent zone
social changes are really hard. econmic are easier. dang this tuff
Got any really good continuing trend of social patters anyone?Got everything except this
would the develpoment of private wealth be considered an econmic change
ok guys i found two documents regarding africa:
Report of a French slave trader talks about a ruined town in africa that he thinks was really involved in slave trade
A SLave Trade Agreement is an agreement in which the king of kilwa agrees to trade slaves for 2 guns for each slave. it just proves how the king was kept in power jsut for trade.
so, historical evidence can be documents and things tht happened right? but wouldn't that just be giving everything away to the thesis, then we'd have nothing left for the rest of the essay..
Mr Prill
If I had two economic changes and one social change and then used slavery as a economic and social continuity would I get all 4 points if I explained why slavery is both an economic and social continuit? I'm not trying to get out of writing more I just have a couple good points on why slavery is an economic and a social continuity.

I also need help with a good thesis please help if u have any good ideas!
nidhi, yes and no.
aren't you supposed to talk about breif things (social and econ. changes and cont.) then in your body talk about the specific historical evidence and explain WHY that happened and how it effected everyone else in the world or in another country??
or am i wrong, if i am please correct me. im so bad at thesis statements but what i said sounds similar to what prill says... i think, right??
and thanks for the document stuff nidhi. =] i think i could use the second one. stupid complex douments =P
oops my bad on the double post
would the develpoment of private wealth be considered an econmic change
is Russia ok on the essay???
wow.. alright. so does anyone think that a social change would be the fact that african provinces were once male dominated and sorta contrlled but due to the high demand of male slaves, women became the dominate leader in africa???? ah thats in my notes but i have no idea if that right. it doesnt sound right to me, but Anybody, help?!?!
so is europe mining in the americas because they want certain things from china and other countries?
wow can a brotha get an a question answered. and yeah i think the whole women rulin in africa is legit
ok i'm confused about one thing
Do we have to do four things about each region, i.e. Europe, Africa, and the Americas, or four things in all?
i took it to be 4 things in all.
If i'm wrong then im sorry.
for social change i have that there are new classes made in the americas. but how did it effect the rest of the world?
uh african women dominating cuz males were slave in americs.... is that a social change or not?? :]
oh maggie. i have that social changes are they deveolpment of europes world ish power, the classes in the americas between the spanish and the natives(mezitos and stuff) and then the fact that skin color was a factor to class ranking rather than birth now. i have another one, but no one is answering me so idk if its right!
did that make any sense?? haha
Abbi,
im not completly sure. It could be an effect of slavery in africa.
Abbi that was somewhat true because remember in the Americas they remebered that they could save money by bringing in the woman. so their reign was short lived.
true true.... well then idk!! ah. lol. hmmm do you have an economic continuity?
hhahaha yah abbi it makes sense. thanks! and i agree with leeshah too cuz they wanted to bring in women so they could give birth to little baby slaves.
yah i have an econ continuity.
THe only thing that changed was that it became much bigger, spreading out to everywhere in the world.
thats what i have for mine, do you have anything else?
hey guys, i have both of those but they are both arguable, so i was wondering if there are other ones for economic continuities
yeah i always thought slavery was a social continuity though, bacause it was the people who socially were changed, even though it did affect the economy too. and yeah Mags!! thats what i have for my econ continuity too. sweet.
I agree with MAggie just because she is saying the Americas. If you look at the Incas they were largely agricultural with their tributes and labor. And it is continued because the foreigners didnt find gold but found good planting...
i think that would be a good continuity wouldnt it?
hey guys, can anyone help me out on the thesis part?
i always seem to struggle with coming up with one.
thanks!
thanks leesher if thats the case then cant that be an econmic continuity?
Question: Wouldn't the whole Europe being regarded as a independent zone/ dominating the Atlantic trade network be untrue? Because what about when both Spain and Portugal become dependent on England for its technology to mine silver?
Im having trouble finding historical evidence for economical continuity and change. any suggestions?
hahahahahhaah Maggie, "little baby slaves" (:
and how much do we need to know about China? I thought this essay was solely on the Atlantic Trade network (Europe Africa and The Americas???)
rachel, since you need to connect the essay with the rest of the world, you can say that the silver mining was fueled by China's desire to get silver, and the Europeans who wanted chinese goods
