Well folks, it looks like things are easing up a bit, and there has been encouraging information from the CDC in recent days that we are not dealing with anything like the Spanish Influenza of 1918. I still personally applaud governments and non-governmental organizations for jumping on this quickly though because (1) we're not out of the woods yet, and it could come back with a vengence when the fall flu season kicks into gear, and (2) perhaps we've been able to keep the levels of spread of this one down because we have been so vigilent. At any rate, the latest is that Mexico will begin to slowly reopen starting Wednesday, and you can read up on the details by clicking here. Currently, the 2009 H1N1 virus has infected 1,025 in 20 countries, but only two countries (Mexico and the U.S.) have reported deaths. I think the Secretary-General makes a good point of working together to fix this problem. Status and alert level of the virus should not raise, and it won't. Mexicans die because of poor treatment, the case of the 2-yr old child visiting texas for better treatment shouldn't be considered a death within our society of the United States, just another reason to believe Mexico is why we're doing this, Flu may spread but it won't cause massive deaths like Black Plague, it's not that kind of pandemic.
This virus still continues to be a pressing issue as we search for a cure, but some of us are acting irrationally. China quarantined 70 mexicans for suspicion, not because they had symptoms, but because of the same reason we attacked Iraq. Mexico shut down shops and food places, luckily having recently reopened them. Some countries stopped importing pork products. While some news sources would rather criticize Middle Eastern countries than pay attention to their interviews, the truth is that 1. Barely anyone in the Middle East eats pork anyway, it's against religion, only a small minority of Christians, and 2. You can contract it from pigs, though unlikely unless your handling it raw.
i agree with the secretary general. and i also like that they are making sure everyone knows that just because the level of alert raises, does not mean that the deadliness of the disease raises.
well at least people shouldnt freak out as much now that people realize it isnt as bad as like thr bubonic plague and all of those big time diseases. countries did crazy things cuz of this like shutting down schools and jobs and not allowing pork into there countries
so glad there is some good news in the world today. The secretary general had some very good things for input.
It's good that people are now being able to see that this particular strain of the flu isn't something to be too concerned about. Even though it is something to try to avoid getting, it's not going to kill you if you recieve the proper treatment unlike the majority of people that are dying in Mexico as well as the people who came from Mexico, already with the disease, to receive treatment in the US, which was too late. The Secretary General is trying to send out the message that this problem is being worked on as a team. The alert all over the media is what is making people freak out over a new strain of the flu. It's definitely nothing compared to the Black Plague.
