Well it's official folks, the New York Film Critics Circle have now chimed in with their awards this afternoon, and their Best Picture is Gus Van Sant's Milk. At this point, Milk is looking like a stronger and stronger contender, perhaps even a lock at this point for a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. There is no doubt about it, Milk has a stellar cast--Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Emile Hirsch, and James Franco are three of the best working actors in the industry. As I've said so many times too, film is simply a reflection of societal realities at any given time. If gives you a clear indication on what is on the mind of society. If you don't know anything about Milk, essentially it is the story of California's first openly gay elected official, Harvey Milk (played by Sean Penn), a San Francisco supervisor who was assassinated along with Mayor George Moscone by San Francisco Supervisor Dan White. It is an interesting piece of American history and the American civil rights struggle that is perpetually ignored. I actually was expecting this film to win Best Picture with the LA Film Critics yesterday as the passage of the highly controversial Proposition 8 back in November is a hot-button issue right now nation-wide, but especially in California where Prop 8 was voted through, which essentially changed the state Constitution to restrict the definition of marriage to a union between a man and a woman and eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry. At any rate, I guarantee you that you'll likely be hearing more about this film in the weeks and months ahead. I would say that Sean Penn has an excellent chance of taking home the Best Actor as well this year, but the reality is that he already won it in 2003 for his work in Mystic River, and in reality both Frank Langella and Mickey Rourke have extremely impressive performances in their films this year, Frost/Nixon and The Wrestler respectively, and neither has won the coveted Oscar in the past. So there you have it folks, Round Four of awards season is officially complete, and things are really beginning to come into focus. Or are they? There are still several announcements to be made. Up next is a biggie: Golden Globe Nominations will be announced tomorrow morning!

I also really want to see the milk movie, it must be pretty good.
I think people should be with who they wanna be with. U love who you love. And James Franco is incredibly cute lol.
Is this a way of america making history? It still amazes me on how much people who are different in any way are discriminated against. How does your sexual orientation affect who you are as a person? it just doesnt. And just to think that our discrimination that started in the americas was for no reason other than some one thought they were better than some one else.........I somewhat hate mankind.
